Gentle Hands Restoration does antique furniture conservation.

Sometimes antique furniture should not be refinished.  There is a fabulous depth of colour that can not be replicated by any furniture restorer. At times, we talk ourselves out of business because we make a practice of letting people know if they have a piece of furniture that should be left alone.  Most furniture made before the Industrial Revolution, early painted pieces or furniture with historical provinance should be left alone.

Often we have to repair a piece of furniture that does not need to be refinished.  After the repair is made we touch it up with artist paints so that the repair is not visible and then send the piece on it’s merry way.   I love old finishes. I love the colour of an aged patina……
